Was it W.E.B Du Bois who said “ Now is the accepted time, not tomorrow, not some more convenient season. It is today that our best work can be done and not some future day or future year. It is today that we fit ourselves for the greater usefulness of tomorrow. Today is the seed time, now are the hours of work, and tomorrow comes the harvest and the playtime.”
These are pertinent words indeed but cannot dwell on them unless we fully comprehend that we first need to approach our challenges with the will and imperativeness they so desire or else we will always fall short wishing on shooting stars and building sand castles.
This is primarily aimed at power it is urgent that leaders fast realise power is infact a noble priviledge, to serve, to lead and be led.
A mutual enabler and equaliser much like a hammer in that you can either destroy with it or build a new era altogether. Unless we invest on education, free quality education that is founded on people, innovative, empowering and engaging.
Unless that time we cannot speak. When we talk about education we not simply talking about you getting a job and living it out in a posh life, but we marginally talking about advancement of Africa, decreasing the brain drain and skills development, capacity building, a nation that is self-sufficient, functioning, indepedent, can partake, innovate and adapt to increasingly globalised world.
Core to this is utilising our youth as vehicles and active bodies, problem solvers to our countries’ turmoil as part of our next school initiative we have conceptualized a strategy, a three day showcase that involves young innovators inspiring learners to come out with solutions and cool ideas that could solve their problems.
It also engages teachers to trully comprehend that teaching is an artform, its not about knowing your stuff but finding points of entries, invoking creativity and creating conduicive, fun and engaging space .
The success of this will see education playing a pivotal role in eradicating poverty.
