IT offers a diverse career with many different specialised areas, and is critical to the social economic development of a country, its productivity and the welfare of people.

Learners will acquire knowledge of the following:

Competently apply the knowledge, techniques & skills of EUC applications in the workplace.
Provide learners with an entry level for further study in IT and related fields, as well as for initial employment in the computer industry.

Provide a foundational qualification for a career in the computer industry, or related fields. Introductory level of IT with little technical complexity, for example entry level computer programming or as a junior project team member.
Have a flexible structure to allow for changing requirements in the computer industry.
Hardware and Infrastructure Support for Personal Computers & Office Products.

Duration

One year programme.

Entry requirements

One of the following:

  • Foundational skills in English and Mathematics at NQF level 2
  • Grade 10 or equivalent

  • Enhance, edit and organise electronic messages using a GUI-based messaging application
  • Use electronic mail to send and receive messages
  • Using the Internet

How to use computer technology to research a topic

  • Principles of the internet and the world-wide-web

Basic PC and IT concepts

  • Principles of computer networks
  • Computer architecture concepts
  • Data communications
  • Preventative maintenance, including environmental and safety issues in a computer environment
  • Concepts of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the use of its components in a healthy and safe manner
  • The application and effect of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) on society

Database

  • Solve given problems

Fundamentals

  • Fundamental English 1st Language and HIV/AIDS

Workplace Learning

This programme includes a compulsory Workplace Learning component. Workplace learning provides important opportunities for professional and personal growth. It addresses specific competencies identified for the acquisition of the qualification, which relates to the development of skills that will make the learner employable and will assist in developing his/her personal skills.
